Text Box: Didn’t plan on joining a frat. Met a couple of cool guys (JP and Bob C in my case) and the rest is history. In my time at the house, I’ve had the chance to meet a myriad of interesting individuals who (for some God-forsaken reason) I’m proud to call my brothers. The odd thing, in my class’ case is that none of us were really very close before we joined the house. A lot of times guys will join the house in groups. Half a unit here – A couple of suitemates there – you know how it works. Paul Studenovsky, Gabe Borreson, John Stimpson, Dallas Breeze and Christian Crew. I didn’t know a single one of these guys after my Freshman I and I don’t think many of them knew each other well either. A damn Czech, a pretty boy partier, a Ford-aholic diesel nut, one of the craziest men I’ve ever met and a man on a perma-high. Yet somehow we all came together as a rush class. This is what makes Lambda Chi. Men from all forms of hobbies, appearances, backgrounds and personalities all come together to form
Text Box: For all of you who don’t know me, my name is Ryan “Putts” Putman and I hail from the “thumb” of Michigan. I was in the Kettering class of 2003 until transferring out in 2002. I know, I know – it’s not exactly an alumni spotlight but I’m trying. My big B is Bob Crofts and his big B is Craig Setzer (those names might sound more familiar to some of you alumni). So what did I do while at Lambda Chi?. Besides screw around a whole hell of a lot and drink more beer than I probably should have throughout a life time of drinking, I did do a few good things in my years at Lambda Chi Alpha. My biggest accomplishment, however, was probably the rush term of 2001. Most of you know of the severe condition that the house was in back in the 2000 – 2001 year. Our house numbers had fallen to less than a dozen and I had been given the great task of being Delta for the upcoming summer term. After a great rush ran by our members, we almost tripled the size of house by Summer 2002. Quite obviously this can not be accredited to just myself, but I do take a large amount of pride in being the work that I did that term and the end result of our member’s diligent efforts. So where am I now you ask? I currently attend SVSU working toward a CS degree (a large reason for transferring – turns out KU’s CS degree is not exactly certified yet) I am married and have one son (Logan Thomas) I reside in the great town of Clio (15 minutes N of Flint) and I work for Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance programming Web-Based databases. Now that I have talked about the basics let me share what I feel Lambda Chi means to me.
I could start about why I joined and how that all happened, but I’m guessing that almost everyone’s story is quite similar.

THE BEST FRATERNITY IN KETTERING/GMI HISTORY.  Obviously, when you have such diversity in a house, cliques will form.  All of us remember the guys that we were the closest to.  There were guys you could tell someone everything about and then guys who you knew not much about, but when it came right down to it – you were brothers.  You’d always be there for each other. The experiences and lessons I learned from living in the house have changed many parts of my life. I think I’ve learned 10 times more from the members of Lambda Chi than I ever did from a college professor (however some would say that doesn’t take much – to that I say screw y’all)   I’m not talking on an intellectual level.  I’m talking about how to treat people, how to work with people and how to respect people.  No matter their differences, you respect them as brothers and as a brother, you’re there for them at all times and all occasions.

Text Box: Sigma Section

Eleven weeks of two o’clock taco bell runs and diligent studying have finally paid off.  Lambda Chi A-Section ascended to the pinnacle of the Kettering scholastic hierarchy.  We posted an 88.488 average, earning bragging rights for our house with the highest average of any Greek organization on campus.  In addition to beating out our Greek counterparts, we also posted a higher average than the independents, who only had an 86.804.

I would attribute this success solely to the hard work and motivational talks of the Sigma, but these are only small facets of our formula for success.  The majority of the credit should go to the brothers, who spent their nights studying, who strove to do their best, and who did not let obstacles thwart their climb to academic excellence.
